Five Points Parking Deck

This gem is a 240-space parking deck attached to Pickwick Place between 20th Street South and Magnolia Avenue. The parking deck has long been an underused or even unknown amenity for the neighborhood, which is often perceived to have a lack of parking. But now, the deck, will be operated by SP Plus Corp. and the company plans a series of internal and external enhancements and upgrades to make the deck a benefit for the entire Five Points South community and nearby tenants. Spoeth said one significant upgrade for the parking deck is the technological enhancements planned. He said the company plans to install fully automated equipment supported by a remote management system that will be available 24/7. The new technology will include an efficient payment system.

Vesta Apartment Development

A 17-story luxury apartment building initially set to begin construction in Birmingham’s Southside last year is still in the works, the developer said. Atlanta-based Cortland Partners and Harbert Realty announced early last year that it was developing a 318-unit luxury apartment building at 2173 Highland Avenue South dubbed Vesta for the Roman goddess of the hearth, a female counterpart to the Vulcan, a symbol of the city of Birmingham. The development is set to include retail space, likely a restaurant, and a parking deck.

Family Service Laundry Building

Birmingham-based Mike Mouron of Capstone Real Estate Investments is transforming this 1920s-era, 30,000-square-foot Family Service Laundry Building at 2200 Magnolia Ave. South into office space. The building was vacant in recent years, but it was originally home to the Hill Food Stores main bakery in 1923. The Family Service Laundry moved in later in 1934. Retail Specialists and Retail Strategies are going to lease 17,000 square feet of the building. They are expected to move in after Thanksgiving 2018. Mouron said the Family Service Laundry Building was a shell when be bought it. A large number of windows had been taken out and bricked over. Those windows spaces were restored. Existing windows were refurbished. A decorative fencing will be installed to add security for an outdoor seating area.
